Empowered Women Gala
You’re Invited!
Our Scholarship Fundraising Gala will be held Saturday, March 29th from 5 - 9 p.m. at the Hassayampa Inn in Prescott.
The Democratic Women of the Prescott Area offer $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors and current college students to be used for the upcoming academic year. Our hope is to encourage young people to become active members of our society and to make the future brighter for everyone.
We are holding our Gala in honor of Women's History Month and to celebrate the passing of Prop 139.
Women's voices, petition signing and door knocking delivered the Women of Arizona the right to their own personal health autonomy! Prop 139 was passed by the people, certified by Secretary of State Adrian Fontess and is being protected by Attorney General Kris Mayes.
Our Keynote Speaker, Jodi Liggett, is the founder and managing director of the Arizona Center for Women's Advancement. She was instrumental in the passing of the people's proposition 139, to enshrine abortion rights into the Arizona Constitution.
There will be a special video message from Secretary of State Adrian Fontes and DWPA awards.
Doors open at 5 p.m. with scrumptious passed appetizers and a cash bar.
Your chosen meal includes a salad and the Hassayampa's Historic Lemon Bars for dessert.
Seating is assigned. You can purchase multiple seats to ensure seating with friends. A maximum of ten attendees per table.

Margaret Sanger devoted her life to legalizing birth control and making it universally available for women. Born in 1879, Sanger came of age during the heyday of the Comstock Act, a federal statute that criminalized contraceptives. Starting in the 1910s, Sanger actively challenged federal and state Comstock laws to bring birth control information and contraceptive devices to women. In 1914 she coined the term "birth control" and soon began to provide women with information and contraceptives. Indicted in 1915 for sending diaphragms through the mail and arrested in 1916 for opening the first birth control clinic in the country, Sanger would not be deterred. In 1921 she founded the American Birth Control League, the precursor to the Planned Parenthood Federation. (source: PBS)
